About 50 percent of two million blackbirds sprayed with a detergent to remove protective oils perished from exposure. Thieves Steal 28 Artworks From Milan Museum
Milan police report 28 paintings by Renoir Cezanne Gauguin Van Gogh and others stolen from the Municipal Museum in downtown Milan. Valued at about 1.5 million dollars the theft followed a prior February Urbino Renaissance heist. Thieves entered via a broken window and fled unseen. Soviet fishing trawler enters New York Harbor for sailor’s treatment
The 538 foot Onezhskiy Zaliv was allowed into New York Harbor to evacuate a Russian sailor with a spinal injury to the U S Public Health Service Hospital on Staten Island. The ship then departed to resume fishing about 30 miles south of Montauk Point.
