Mary Lincoln Beckwith, 63, mistress of Hildene in Manchester Vermont, plans no celebration for the 153rd birth anniversary of her great grandfather Abraham Lincoln. She runs the 1000 acre dairy farm started by her grandfather Robert Todd Lincoln and says it annoys her when people remark on her Lincoln kinship.
Washington report details U2 pilot Francis Gary Powers facing CIA led questioning after his return from a Berlin exchange for Rudolf Abel. The case prompts queries about the May 1 1960 incident and what Powers disclosed to the Soviets as officials plan a board of inquiry under CIA Director John A McCone.
Frederic L. Pryor 28 returns to Ann Arbor after release by East German Communists who held him since Aug 25 as an espionage suspect. He says he assumed he was a bonus in the Powers Abel swap and did not see any official warrant. Pryor and his family describe nightly questioning and harsh conditions during captivity.
