Akron AP reports two Cuyahoga Falls stores burned early today Falls Hardware Co. and Falls Chocolate Shop were wrecked and Fire Chief Lou Seiler estimated damages at 250000 dollars.
Washington AP reports a proposed 60 000 to 80 000 ton flat top carrier plus eight experimental warcraft. Plans delay conversion of Battleships Kentucky and Hawaii to guided missiles as Sullivan pushes for faster, larger aircraft. The new vessel would drop the island superstructure to allow wider wingspan and easier takeoffs.
Paris AP report says 69 year old German officer Steulpnagel, charged with crimes against international law for executions of hostages in 1941, hanged himself in his Paris cell as war crimes prosecution loomed. Brig Gen Le Gorguillier noted the alleged trial would have occurred this summer.

An Ohio staff sergeant from the Fifth Cavalry regiment was killed in an accident in Japan. The casualty is identified as Randall RK Howard, per AP dispatch. Further details on the incident and accompanying official statements were not immediately available.
Cleveland AP Latimer, a 40 year old Negro Army veteran, saved a girl by hanging by his heels over a rapid transit track. He received letters, checks, and large bills as donations from Ohio readers. The Boydston American Legion Post cited his valor and invited him to a meeting to receive thanks. About 200 coworkers at Meister Bros. warehouse raised funds for Latimer including loss of hat and medicines. he gave the money to his sister.
A wolf blamed for killing 600 sheep in two years was shot after a 25 hour chase by a posse of farmers and hounds near Trinway Ohio. Newcomb will receive a $100 reward from Muskingum County farmers for the capture.
Former governor Lausche launched a campaign speech at the 13th ward Democratic meeting in Columbus attacking Gov. Herbert and the Republican state administration over alleged taxpayer protections and a treasury surplus. He blamed political pressure for failing to use funds for capital improvements and pledged to represent taxpayers.
