Bus System Dates Back To End Of World War I
The Ortman family entered public transportation through Henry Johnson whose health led him from the American Rolling Co. to a Buick truck business in November 1918. By 1923 a Crawford Street bus station opened, and Johnson eventually sold shares to Bert Stewart and later to Lee Ortman, with the Ortman family shaping Middletown’s early jitney and bus routes into a regional hub.
