Traffic helicopter crashes into apartments in Quincy

A radio station traffic helicopter slammed through the roof of a two story Quincy building and exploded killing two people and injuring four others. The helicopter occupants were Chip Whitmore and pilot Red Banks. Injured residents listed include Julia Verga Ronald Michelson his wife Lynn and a 10 week old baby. all were hospitalized. A medical examiner said two bodies burned beyond recognition were found near the wreckage.

Klan rally crasher escapes in Georgia

Buddy Cochran the truck mechanic convicted of ramming a car into a Ku Klux Klan rally in Plains escaped Sumter County jail with another prisoner around 7:45 a.m. The search centered near Americus as police broadcast a Mississippi plate alert. Cochran, 30, was convicted of eight counts of aggravated assault for the July incident injuring 32 people and was sentenced to 12 years plus 8 years probation.

Toledo family perishes in house fire tragedy

Three members of a west Toledo family were killed and two injured when a fire destroyed their home before dawn. Victims are Fred Olrich 50 Shirley 43 and son Mark 17. Sons Dave 15 and Matt 13 survived or were hospitalized in good condition after rescue efforts.

Weekend cold lingers with gradual warmup later week

The Middle town area remains cold with clear skies tonight and a low near 5 degrees. Daytime highs reach the low to mid 20s Wednesday with mornings around 8 degrees and Monday’s low near 2 and 18 high. Snow possible Thursday then a gradual warmup to the 40s by weekend.
