Cesar Chavez Freed to spend Christmas with family
Cesar Chavez was released from jail after 20 days for contempt of court over a lettuce boycott. The California Supreme Court ordered release on his own recognizance pending a hearing on rights claims, allowing the boycott to continue while CHS reviews the injunction issue. Chavez said he felt well and not bitter, noting a jail remains a jail. The ruling also permits UFWOC to continue boycotts against Antle Inc. but prohibits public claims that Antle workers lack union representation.

He cites a four year pattern of inaction and urges Congress to open a full inquiry into the antitrust division and its handling of corporate restraints and mergers.
