Inmates pen Christmas plea to Santa at Warren County Jail

Six inmates at Warren County Jail wrote Santa a humorous list of requests and a plea for a new jail. James Abney and five others asked for items from stunt bikes to books and a year of peanut butter. They also urged the county to build a new jail.

Long distance calls to rise over Christmas due to energy crisis

Ohio Bell Commercial Manager Robert Watts says long distance calling will be high this Christmas. In 1972 over one million direct distance dialed calls were attempted in Ohio on Christmas day. Peak times are Christmas Eve 5 to 6 pm, after 11 pm, and Christmas day before 10 am or noon to 3 pm.

Scavenger Hunt Delivers Christmas Gifts to Needy Family

Local merchants aided by 44 volunteers led by Mr and Mrs William Schneider III gathered over 80 items of toys clothing and food at their Ardmore Drive home. The donations will be given to a needy family through an area minister.

Fire Responds to Two Medical Complaints at Dwellings

At 10 32 a m a fire crew reported at 2102 Pearl Street where Ethel Johnson 78 complained of high temperature and was taken to hospital in fair condition. At 12 36 p m Helen Keith 43 at 216 Park Street showed nervousness and was treated and released after hospital care.

Springboro accepts donations for park trees and shrubs

Springboro council votes to form a committee led by Mrs. Lowell Haws to accept donations for Fred Mayne Memorial Park. Committee members include Mary Pennington and Charles Harris. Donor names may appear on a plaque funded by the park fund. A Jan. 17 meeting with education and health officials will address water flow from Springboro High School field.

Middletown Recycling Center Named Center of the Month

The Middletown Area Recycling Center was named Center of the Month by the Ohio EPA for broad based community support. The center is run by a local Junior Achievement company and sponsored by AAUW EARTH of Miami University Jaycees Lions Club and Sertoma.

Offices to Close for Christmas Holidays Across City

Numerous government offices and services will close this week for Christmas. The post office, City Building, Social Security office, Bureau of Employment Services, and Middletown Public Library will be closed Monday and Tuesday, with special Saturday or extended hours noted for parcels and emergencies. The Butler County Chest Clinic at Verity Hall will be closed tomorrow and Dec 31, reopening the following day. No Middletown Journal will publish on Tuesday to allow staff holiday time.

Santa in Madison Tonight Rounds Township Streets

Santa Claus escorted by North Madison Township firemen travels through POASTTOWN tonight starting 5:30 at the firehouse. He will stop at numerous street corners including Catalina Court Algen Road Germantown Road Rickord Acres Fairlane Park Old Germantown Road South and more, giving candy to children. Fire Chief Robert Ledford asks parents to bring kids to corners as Santa cannot stop elsewhere. No stops on Ohio 122 or Trenton Franklin Road due to traffic.
