Two Robbers Fail Escape At Alcatraz
SAN FRANCISCO AP Two bank robbers sawed their way out of Alcatraz on Sunday night but were recaptured after cold waters halted one man after a 100 yard swim. The other, John Paul Scott, reached the mainland but his body temperature dropped to 94 degrees amid 54 degree bay water. Parker quit after about 100 yards, waiting on Little Alcatraz until a prison boat spotted him. Both were returned to Alcatraz. Further, the warden said they escaped from the kitchen basement window. This was Alcatrazs second breakout of the year following the June 12 escape of Anglin Morris and Morris, presumed drowned.
