A report to Ohio Governor Rhodes warns that declining college enrollments and rising costs threaten the state's colleges and universities. It urges consolidating two year campuses, revisiting open admissions, trimming underutilized programs, and adjusting offerings to curb inflation and funding gaps.
A charter DC-3 carrying 14 Evansville basketball players plus coaches and supporters crashed in rain and fog near Evansville Indiana. All 29 aboard died including coach Bobby Watson and two local boosters. The flight from Dress Regional Airport bound for Nashville failed to regain altitude and struck a muddy hillside. Bodies were moved to a temporary morgue at the Community Center.
In Cairo the Israeli and Egyptian delegations opened a two week conference at the Mena House hotel near the Great Pyramid. Leaders Ben Elissar and Meguid voiced commitment to a comprehensive settlement with all Arab neighbors while avoiding immediate detailed concessions.

Once excommunicated and shunned by his Reformed Mennonite Church his family left in 1972 and his business suffered with employees quitting and partners refusing his potatoes. Bear says the farm is worth 400000 with a 35000 bank lien and that the auction will determine the split of any remaining proceeds between him and his wife Gale.
The Middletown area sees a rising mercury with overnight readings in the mid 30s and highs around the mid 40s. Rain totals near an inch and forecasts call for mild, potentially wet conditions with showers Friday through Sunday.
