Strike Effects Hit Parma GM Plant With Layoffs
The one day national railroad strike prompted General Motors to lay off 2000 workers at its Parma Chevrolet Transmission Plant with a quick return date expected. Ford planned layoffs if the strike continued while 6000 railroad workers in Greater Cleveland were to return to work today. A temporary restraining order blocking the strike until Dec 18 was issued by Judge Battisti against three unions. Members of the clerks union at C&O-B&O returned to work briefly before resuming walks.
