Chinese wine making may predate others by 9,000 years
Scientists led by Patrick McGovern report residues in Jiahu pottery from Henan province dating 7,000 B C to 9,000 years ago show chemicals matching rice and grape wines, honey and hawthorn, suggesting early processed beverages from rice, honey and fruit. Additional 3,000-year-old bronze vessel residue reveals rice and millet wines flavored with herbs.
