Unemployment Rises to 8.1 Percent in Novembers Report

The Labor Department data show unemployment up 0.2 points to 8.1 percent in November, with 200,000 more people jobless, raising total to 78 million. Vance Likely to Be Carter Secretary of State

Carter pledges informal message to Moscow on peace and disarmament

President elect Jimmy Carter said he will send an informal message to the Soviet Union expressing reciprocal commitment to peaceful relations and to nuclear disarmament. He outlined moving aggressively for arms control and a broader U.S. Soviet effort to cut nuclear weapons, noting Brezhnev’s assurances no early tests. He spoke during an NBC Today interview.

Arctic cold grips Great Lakes as Ohio shivers low records

Frigid arctic air pushed into the Great Lakes with subzero lows across the region.
