Yesterday Mickey Cohen appeared briefly at the city jail after his arrest at home on disturbing the peace charges. Capt. Lynn White said Cohen cursed officers who had arrested Mike Howard two weeks earlier, drawing scrutiny from Chief William Worton. Howard was arraigned on illegal gun possession as an ex convict. a pistol was found in his apartment. Johnny Stompanato, Cohen's alleged bodyguard, faced vagrancy charges after driving a Cadillac with checks totaling 33,657.50. his case was continued to October 5. The incident followed the July 20 gangland shooting that fatally wounded Neddie Hervert’s wife as Cohen’s party left a night club.
