Roll Roofing Under Houses Reduces Dampness and Decay
Pennsylvania State College engineers and U S Department of Agriculture scientists report asphalt roll roofing laid in crawl spaces under basementless houses can stop dampness and decay. Tests on seven damp sites near Washington showed dry joists and floors within three months with no moisture on sills or subfloor timbers. Footings must extend below the frost line, making shallow footings more feasible in the South.
