The News-Post reported it found a run down farm near Westminster Maryland once bought by Alger Hiss and his wife and later abandoned Photostatic copies show sale agreements signed by Alger and Priscilla Hiss and Esther Chambers under the name Jay Chambers Dates cited are April 13 1936 for the Hiss contract and March 12 1937 for the Chambers contract

At Marlboro half mile track in Maryland a 16 month old child was left in a parked car behind the grandstand as temperatures topped 113. Track officials paged the car owners and asked them to leave. The Navy flying boat Caroline Mars began a nonstop flight from Honolulu to Chicago at 7:13 a m Hawaiian time. The 82% ton craft is projected to cover 4200 miles in about 22 hours, and it was flown to Honolulu from Alameda, California in 12 hours and 3 minutes. Its formal commissioning will occur on arrival in Chicago.
