Some Acid Vignettes by Shelagh Delaney A Bitter Taste
A compact review notes Delaney at nineteen releasing a small vignette collection. It threads stark observations from her youth including a convalescent home, a cruel boy gang death, bravado despite illness, a teacher and pet, and municipal pomposity. The pieces mix surreal and biting tones from her early fame.

Oak Tree Dying Near Rutgers Campus Prompts Plans
A near 300 year old white oak on the Rutgers University campus is dying of old age and will be chopped down. A committee led by Prof. Richard West will dispose of the tree and may create keepsakes from the wood. Kilmer's poem Trees lore and potential seedling plantings elsewhere add context to the historic tree's fate.

Beowulf translated in verse by Burton Raffel
Review notes Raffel’s Beowulf verse translation from Mentor Paperback priced 60 cents. Critical remarks cite limited precedent and manuscript challenges from eighth century work. The piece covers Beowulf’s two-part tale against monsters and dragon, with early Christian overtones, set in Denmark and southern Sweden. It mentions Raffel’s prior Poems From the Old English (1960). A canoe race item from Aug 24 1983 is noted but not fully described.
