Nixon challenged on claim of large scale burglaries

President Nixon said burglaries like the Ellsberg case occurred on a large scale during the Kennedy and Johnson years. Former officials such as Nicholas deB. Nixon rejects resignation in Watergate news conference

President Richard Nixon declared I shall not resign during a 50 minute White House news conference outside the Western White House. He defended his record, called Watergate water under the bridge, and urged moving on to the business of the people. Former astronaut Haise burns in Galveston plane crash

Former astronaut Fred W. Haise Jr. suffered critical burns after a World War II training plane he piloted crashed during a landing in Galveston. The 39 year old, aboard a BT 13 belonging to the Confederate Air Force, escaped with injuries as the aircraft burned and cartwheeled on approach. He was treated at a local hospital where officials said his condition was critical but stable.
