Gambling addiction rises in Ohio as state sets aside casino revenue
Ohio officials see problem gambling grow with casino expansion. By year end the state will devote about 6.2 million dollars to prevention and treatment, funded through 2 percent of casino tax revenue. A helpline logged nearly 5,000 calls, with 450 seeking voluntary exclusion from casinos. The program is backed by Ohio Casino Control Commission and local mental health boards, with partners like Hollywood Casino Columbus taking part in awareness and prevention efforts.

Grand jury meets in Steubenville on rape case probe
A Steuben ville grand jury reconvenes to consider additional crimes in the rape of a 16 year old West Virginia girl last August. Investigators seek whether adults who must report crimes knew earlier and stayed silent. In March, two high school football players were convicted of rape. Attorney General DeWine keeps all options open. Emergency management drills in Ohio include federal and state agencies, Camp Atterbury, Camp Muscatatuck, and a FEMA role. The Fraternal Order of Police conference in Cincinnati opens with Janet Napolitano among speakers.

Ohio bicentennial barn logos fading across the state
A decade after Ohio's bicentennial celebration, most of the 88 county barns bearing the logo have faded or been repainted, with some removed entirely. Owner choices varied. painting was inexpensive and meant to be temporary, and several barns still display faded logos while others have been refreshed or left as is. Local owners like Bob Postle and the Clady/Shultz families reflect on the logo's enduring memory versus its impermanence.
