Watts Riot Anniversary Sparks Deadly Gunfight in Watts
Police fought heavy gun battles with gunmen in Watts on Sunday night and early Monday as the festival marking the 1965 riots ended. Three people were killed and 35 wounded as about 1,000 shots were fired at a police substation and in a park. Police reported 2,000 officers on duty across Los Angeles with a three mile parade area secured and cordoned blocks in the 98 percent Negro neighborhood.
