Two Women Injured In Preble County Car Truck Crash
Two Preble County women were injured in a midday two vehicle crash on Route 122 at Elk Creek Road. Raymond Gillespie, 63, of Trenton, driving a dump truck, stopped at the sign and pulled onto Route 122 into the eastbound car driven by Brenda Jean Thomas, 20, of Eaton. A passenger, Muriel Thomas, 38, of Fator, sustained shoulder injuries. Gillespie was cited for failure to yield right of way.

At 6:30 p.m. fire crews handled a grass fire in a vacant field at 1841 S Main St possibly started by children. Earlier at 5:31 p.m. a trash fire at 12 N Main St caused by sparks from a trash burner caused no damage.

Beating and theft as hitchhiker steals car near Hamilton
Cecil Porter, 53, Middletown, was beaten by a hitchhiker who then stole his 1966 Ford after Porter picked him up on Rt 4 below Yankee Road. Porter, injured, was found at the BRR Preserve and taken to Mercy Hospital. The suspect, about 25, 6 ft 1 in, 210 pounds with sandy hair, fled toward Hamilton. In a separate late night incident Beverly Marcum Sr. was robbed of about $50 by two youths at Marcum Grocery.

Bernice Alex of 6151 West Alexandria Road was struck by a jar of Kool Aid that fell from a second story window. Two 18 year old city employees Fred Walton and Mark Fuller were working in the old McAlpin Building on Central Avenue near Clinton Street when the jar fell. The woman suffered a minor cut and bump and was advised to see her doctor.

Franklin police expected to file charges of shooting with intent to wound and destruction of property against Hugh Rose age 43 of 919 Second Street. Officers responded to a report of shots at Raymond Arnold’s home at 9 Beam Drive around 10 24 p m yesterday. After several shots were fired Ptl Don Fry and James Wells arrived Wells fired one shot Rose surrendered without a struggle and has not given a statement.

Fire officials investigate a blaze at a two story residence at 1508 Fairmount Ave. Damage totals 500 to contents and 300 to the building. The McIntosh family occupied the home. Mrs. McIntosh was asleep upstairs with her child when the fire started. she received a slight burn. Firefighters remained on scene about 30 minutes.
