Washington AP reports President Nixon remains more isolated from lawmakers who must decide his fate. A Camp David session discussed resignation but chose to fight on, provoking defections and impeachment pressure.
Four GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee who opposed impeachment now back or reassess after Nixon disclosed withholding evidence. Reps. Wiggins Dennis Mayne Maraziti shift stance. Sandman Latta Moorhead Smith Hutchinson reassessing. Lott unavailable for comment.
Facing a new firestorm in Congress President Nixon summoned his Cabinet for an urgent session after admitting he withheld evidence and directed the CIA to blunt an FBI probe. White House aides said all items would be discussed as impeachment calls mount. Nixon faces mounting resignations pressure while plans for a Senate trial proceed with tape transcripts.
Michigan Republican Senator Robert Griffin met reporters in Washington after President Nixon admitted withholding Watergate evidence. Griffin urged Nixon to resign in the best interests of the nation and himself.
Vice President Gerald R. Ford says he will not publicly defend President Nixon in impeachment talks until more facts are available. He cites Nixon’s statement that new evidence may be damaging and notes his role as successor to Nixon should he be impeached.

Gov. John J. Gilligan signed a new law defining rights for landlords and tenants. Tenants may withhold rent for needed repairs with court supervised payment held until dispute settled. The bill bans retaliatory eviction and assigns both parties responsibility for sanitary and safe housing.
The Soviet Union launched Cosmos 670, an unmanned space probe in the secret program. Tass reported the craft orbits Earth every 892 minutes with a high point near 192 miles and a low point near 135 miles.
A sunny but cool day is forecast for Middletown with a tonight low near 60 and tomorrow’s high in the low 80s. Clouds move in by Thursday ahead of a chance of showers Friday and Saturday. yesterday’s official high was 78 and the morning low 55.
