The union of Lithuania with Poland and Lublin was effected by Sigismund II of Poland on July 1 1569.
The Commerce Department and Goodwill announce a mail order center to distribute canning lids to about 26 000 home canners. Goodwill will sell nine dozen lids for 5 dollars plus postage with UPS delivery beginning Aug 7 on a first come first served basis.
Warren County Crisis Center in Lebanon will start a new Helpline Volunteer training program led by director Vic O Connor. The 40 hour course prepares volunteers to handle crisis calls with support from professional staff and counselors. Volunteers work one evening weekly for four hours at 42 North Broadway Lebanon. Federal judge sets August 10 for Dwight L. Chapin to start a 10 to 30 month sentence for lying to a Watergate grand jury. He will serve at the minimum security prison in Lompoc California.
George Wagner, 52, of 307 Vanderveer St., was jailed three days and fined 200 in Municipal Court for fleeing the scene of a July 24 accident at Ohio 4 and Pinta Avenue. His license was suspended for one year. Other riders faced penalties for excessive noise and traffic offenses.
