Doug Medley unveils a fiberglass flush toilet for cats priced at 79 dollars at a Richmond cat fanciers’ gathering. The device uses weight sensors and two water jets to flush for 30 seconds once the cat leaves, either attaching to a drain or fitting on a standard toilet.
In Saigon President Duong Van Minh proposed an immediate cease-fire and talks to end the war but the Viet Cong dismissed the move. Air base attacks near Tan Son Nhut damaged six South Vietnamese aircraft as rumors and streetside evacuations spread. no ground assault reported. Separately in Washington the Commerce Department said the economy’s index fell 0.5 percent in March, signaling continued deterioration with no near-term recovery.
North Vietnamese gunners bombarded Bien Hoa near Saigon, igniting fires across the city of about 500,000. Shelling continued into the night with over 500 shells, forcing refugees to flee along the Saigon highway as U.S. built air base runways cratered and military and civilian areas endured the assault.
The Special National Congress of Cambodia asks Prince Norodom Sihanouk to continue as chief of state and head of the National Liberation Front of Cambodia. The communique, issued after April sessions, praises his role in national liberation and endorses a policy of independence and neutrality.
Gunmen burst into the Johannesburg consulate and opened fire in Jerusalem during a weekend attack. Police fought from rooftops and cars as crowds gathered in the streets. Wounded workers were evacuated and others lay on stretchers while ambulances ferried casualties.
Tonight in Middletown showers and thunderstorms with a low in the mid 50s. High yesterday 60, overnight low 43, with 0.95 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Tuesday brings a chance of more rain and a high in the low 70s. Rain chances 80 percent tonight and 40 percent tomorrow.
A government study of four workers shows one in four in small businesses contracted a job related disease. It covers Oregon Washington and cites 89 percent underreporting to the Labor Department. Diseases include asbestos dust exposure hearing loss cataracts and lead absorption. Rep Dominick Daniels called findings shocking.
