Changes In Store Methodist Hymnal Still A Secret

Methodist leaders hold back the full contents of a new hymnal due in January 1964. The 28 member revision committee spent four years trimming 564 existing hymns by 20 to 30, adding new ones while discarding familiar favorites. Delegates at the general conference must approve the selection after reviewing 4000 texts and 80 denominational hymnals. The revision reflects shifts in theology since 1935 and aims to keep tunes and words aligned with modern faith concerns.
