Nation moves to metric highway signs in 1978 plan
The U S government will convert speed limit signs and other highway markers to metric units starting in 1978. The switchaimed at 88 to 90 kph speedswill unfold over 1980 to 1982 for various sign types with costs up to 100 million dollars and five years. Public comment is invited for 45 days.
