Americans Ordered to Leave Ethiopia as Facilities Closed

About 300 Americans were to depart Ethiopia after the leftist military government ordered the closure of five U.S. facilities. An estimated 100 U.S. staff and 200 family members would fly out, with the government giving until Wednesday but stating no pressure to meet the deadline. Facilities affected included the Information Service center and the Consulate in Asmara, plus the Military Assistance Advisory Group, Naval Medical Research Center, and Kagnew radio center.
