Setback for Union Terminal rotunda deal in Cincinnati

A $5,000 option check to buy Union Terminal rotunda was rejected after the deadline passed. STC officials say Alfred Moore met resistance as Southern Railway president Claytor said terminal manager Gray had no authority to accept the offer. The rotunda price remains $1 million as railroads own the terminal. STC plans a new fund drive if agreement is reached.

Viet Cong Claims Two Copters Strayed From Course

The Viet Cong said an ICCS investigation team found the crash helicopters strayed from their prearranged path. Maj. Gen. Duncan McAlpine said one helicopter was shot down by a heat seeking missile over Quang Tri. All nine aboard died. a second ICCS helicopter survived ground fire.

Nixon plan to curtail OEO programs blocked in court

A federal judge blocked the Nixon administration from terminating OEO programs and phasing out the agency. Judge William B. Jones ruled the administration cannot unilaterally end programs funded by Congress, in suits by a government workers union local and a Missouri redevelopment group. In Chicago a different judge allowed the actions to proceed, saying continued funding is possible unless Congress acts.

Nixon calls for jobless insurance reforms

President Nixon asked Congress to set minimum unemployment insurance standards so workers receive at least half their average weekly wage.
