Fortas resignation tied to Nixon pressure, book says
AP reports Newsweek writer Robert Shogan discloses in a forthcoming book that in November 1968 Justice Abe Fortas discussed returning $20,000 to the Wolfson Foundation with Ramsey Clark. Clark, after a tax scrutiny, considered the incident closed, but a later Life Magazine piece and political maneuvering led Fortas to resign under Nixon-era pressure.
