First Canadian birth on diverted SAS flight to Montreal

Robert Manak and his Greek wife Anthe expected a U S birth for their baby while en route to New York. When Anthe went into labor aboard a Scandinavian Airlines jumbo jet, the plane diverted to Montreal. A 5 pound 5 ounce boy was born in a Canadian hospital assisted by Swedish doctors on board.

Cincinnati Tornado Hits Music Hall and Neighborhoods

A tornado touched down near Union Terminal and moved toward Eden Park, causing roof damage to homes and the historic Music Hall. The hardest hit area was a Cincinnati Sheet Metal Co warehouse. debris flew as roofs tore off and a car was overturned. No injuries were reported.

Cincinnati boy adapts to new leg after cancer battle

Stephen Southerland, 13, from Miami, Florida, lost his left leg below the hip to bone cancer. He is undergoing chemotherapy and physical therapy at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. Doctors say cancerous tissue is gone and he is progressing well, with a temporary prosthesis and plans for a permanent leg. He hopes to ride his bike and swim at home, and notes phantom limb sensations.

Travel travel boost eyed as fuel efforts expand

Washington officials promise to lift April gasoline allocations across states to ease shortages and spur travel with higher volumes in coming months if supplies allow. Storms sweep Southeast leave two dead and many injured

A series of tornadoes across Alabama Kentucky Tennessee Mississippi and surrounding areas left Willie McCarey dead when his mobile home overturned near Huntsville Alabama and Decker Teague in Campbellsville Kentucky died in a tornado. The Nashville 100 Oaks Shopping Center suffered damage while Central State Hospital lost power and a portion of a building. Damage totals ranged up to 150000 dollars in Bolivar County Mississippi.

Hot star mistaken for Mercury moon by Mariner 10

In Pasadena a bright, mysterious object observed by Mariner 10 was identified as a very hot star in Corvus, not a moon. Dr. A Lyle Broadfoot of Kitt Peak National Observatory explained the instrument aimed at Mercury detects stellar radiation, not an atmosphere, leading to the misinterpretation.
