Saloon Keeper Assaults Officer at Erie Depot
At Erie depot last night Patrick A Spellman a North street saloon keeper attacked Policeman DeGraw after being accused of reporting him. Spellman fought back and was eventually restrained with a rope, pled guilty to assaulting an officer, and is held on $1,000 bail to await the May 27 Goshen court.

Accidents Involving Mrs Whitaker And Mrs O Neill
Mrs Henry Whitaker of Branchville New Jersey was burned when a spark from a Midland engine set her clothing ablaze on the trip to Middletown. A nearby passenger Mr Winter of Unionville saved her but burned his hands in the rescue. On the 2d inst Mrs Thomas O Neill of Cottage Street fell sustaining a broken leg. Dr McCabe reset the limb and the patient is recovering.

Accident to a Boy at Port Jervis
Walter Corey eight son of Alexander Corey a fireman on the Erie Railroad fell from a moving caboose in the Port Jervis yard and was run over by two or three cars. His legs were mangled and crushed requiring amputation. his life was despaired of at nine o clock Sunday night.

A case of small-pox developed last Friday in the John Skelton family on South Street. The patient is a girl eight or nine years old who had just recovered from spotted fever. She is improving and likely to recover. The house is quarantined and precautionary measures are in place to prevent spread.

Coal train derailment disrupts Newburgh Branch at Vail's Gate
At noon Monday about half of Conductor Coyle's coal train derailed west of Vail's Gate Junction. The engine remained on track but many cars left the rails and were badly smashed. The conductor and fireman suffered minor injuries. The accident delayed trains for most of the afternoon.
