Gibson Scholarship Awarded to Barbara Denson

Barbara Jean Denson, 1957 Booker T. Washington HS graduate, receives the Gibson Scholarship Fund prize from the Heroines of Jericho and M W U G C State of Florida. She will enter FAMU September 14 on a $550 yearly four year grant to study elementary education.

AME Judicial Council Reverses Maladministration Conviction

The Judicial Council of the AME Church in Cleveland reversed a Florida maladministration conviction of Bishop D Ward Nighels. Thirteen robed members heard Sept 5 to 7 with Judge Perry B. Jackson presiding. Attorneys L E Thomas and Ernest Jackson defended, while Sadie Tanner Alexander and Ezra Johnson prosecuted. Some bishops oppose the ruling and seek a special General Conference session to uphold the trial court decision.

Delta Sigma Theta Beta Zeta Sigma Opens New Year

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Beta Zeta Sigma Chapter held a workshop on Saturday September 7 at the James E Scott Community Building marking the end of vacation and start of the sorority year. Augusta Colston newly elected president led the meeting greeting visiting undergraduates and welcoming new and old sorors including those under medical care new mothers and newlyweds. The chapter set its annual calendar and committees to begin functioning immediately.
