Officials of the Miami and Liberty City branches estimate more than 2,000 citizens from Dade and surrounding counties will gather at Greater Bethel for a demonstration.
Congressman James Roosevelt, son of the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt, will address Civil Rights issues Sunday at 2 30 PM in an AME Church in Miami. Attorney Abe Aronovitz will introduce him, with NAACP urging broad attendance despite color. Music by the Southland Singers.
Malvina Leibman director of elementary schools in Dade County will be guest speaker at the 5th Annual Calendar Tea by the Dade County Young Democratic Association. The event runs 4 to 6 p.m. on Mother's Day April 12 at Sir John Hotel Club 535 Ballroom. Dr Joe Hall will introduce her. topic New Worlds in Education. Congressman James Roosevelt expected to attend after NAACP meeting at Greater Bethel AME Church.
Archie Moore demanded $100000 to defend his light heavyweight title against Tony Anthony, citing five years of delays. He said he would fight Anthony only if paid and in form, while preparing by losing 28 pounds. He claims no valid contract was signed with the International Boxing Club for the June 7 bout.
The Christian Hospital sold nine lots on NW last place between 12th and 18th streets for 85000 to Market Industries Inc. The hospital plans a Brownsville site costing 30800, stretching NW 47th to 48th streets on 32nd Ave, about 340 feet deep, with construction to start within six months. The project dates to 1918 origin. nine months to vacate current area.
Police records show Pa patrolman Harold Mitchell resigning after six weeks suspension tied to the March 26 shotgun shooting of Police Captain Lawrence Nolle outside his home. Mitchell had openly disparaged his white superior and was questioned as a suspect in the incident.
