NAACP urges anti bias clause in housing bill
The NAACP pressed the House Banking and Currency Committee to add an anti segregation amendment to pending housing legislation. Clarence Mitchell warned of federal housing program abuses against Negroes including land displacements for White-only housing and parks access denial in redevelopment in southern cities. He said directives to correct practices were replaced by conferences with a colored group to accept segregated housing. Mitchell testified on June 9.

Newspublisher to Receive 40th Spingarn Medal
Carl Murphy of Baltimore will be awarded the 40th Spingarn medal by the NAACP for distinguished service. The award will be presented by New Jersey Governor Robert B. Meyner on June 24 at the Atlantic City convention. Murphy has published the Afro American newspapers for 37 years and crusaded for racial justice and against bigotry.
