Wassie Blue Says Trial Was Unfair

Stanley Spieler, attorney for Percy Ambrister known as Wassie Blue, told the state pardon board that his client did not receive a fair trial before his death sentence for the February 1953 murder of Eddie Fritz during a robbery. Ambrister, George Anderson and Richard Floyd were condemned to die. Floyd seeks mercy, Ambrister and Floyd pursue commutation. The board acts next Wednesday.

Anderson Gets Life In Solomon Slaying

Willie D. Anderson, 52, a Florida East Coast Railroad employee and church deacon, was sentenced to life with hard labor for murdering King Solomon, 37, during a January domestic dispute in Solomons apartment. A 12 juror panel deliberated six hours before the verdict, with attorney Henry Carr promising a new trial motion and possible appeal to the state Supreme Court.

Mrs Pauline Styles Willis librarian at Dorsey Senior High School will serve as guest professor in Library Service at Florida A and M University for the summer session. Shivers Speech Echoes Amid Beverly Hills Commencement

At the Beverly Hills event Gov. Shivers addressed student protesters while USC UCLA Valley Junior College and LA City College participants objected to his selection as commencement speaker. He received an honorary doctor of laws as the university marked its 75th founding anniversary. Two women were attacked and two others robbed after a bus ride, with a knife used and seven dollars taken before release.

Damages Awarded in Florida Train Collision Suit

Mr and Mrs Willie B Franklin of 2990 NW 48th St win a 50000 dollar verdict from a Circuit court jury against the Florida East Coast Railroad. Attorney Henry W Kristen says Mrs Daisy Franklin sustained permanent back injuries when a train backed into a Pullman car at Buena Vista yards last year. She received 45000 dollars with her attorney J Fritz Gordon.

White Students Seek To Enter Texas Negro Schools

SAN ANTONIO Applications for special courses at a Negro junior college here have been received from 28 White students. President J. O. Loftin said the two junior colleges are no longer segregated and two Negro students have been admitted to San Antonio College. Both colleges are tax supported. He stated applications from White and Negro students would be processed on merit as Texas moves toward desegregation.
