Pittman Out on $1,000 Bond

In Miami a fatal two car crash near NW 27th Ave and 106th St killed Charles W. Knowles 54 and left Louise A. Pittman with serious injuries. Pittman 27 was taken to Jackson Memorial in fair condition with multiple injuries. Knowles funeral set for Aug 24. Pittman charged with manslaughter and released on bond after earlier arrest.

Teenager shoots man in fatal Austin altercation

Jade County sheriff reports 33 year old Austin Hamilton died after an afternoon dispute over a chicken dinner at 750 NW 46th St. Frank M. Selly, 18, of 2753 NW 45th St., was arrested for first degree murder and held without bond awaiting a combined preliminary hearing and coroner's inquest. Hamilton's body was released to Senior's Funeral Home and viewing scheduled Friday afternoon.

Patterson KO's Rademacher for second title defense

Heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson stopped Pete Rademacher with seven knockdowns and a sixth round KO on Thursday night in Clayton Alabama. Patterson was briefly down in the second round but recovered to seal the victory and retain his title. Funeral services and burial for a local figure were announced in Clayton.

Bishop Greene to Speak at St James AME on Men’s Day

Rt. Rev. Sherman L. Greene, newly assigned bishop of the 11th Episcopal District and Senior Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, will deliver the Men’s Day message at St. James AME during morning worship on Aug 25. He was elected in 1928 and has chaired ecumenical church committees while contributing to African Methodism. he arrives in Florida from the 12th Episcopal District covering Arkansas and Oklahoma with broad experience.

Ghana Head Booed For Deporting Newsmen

An angry crowd in Accra resisted police, hooting Premier Kwame Nkrumah as he left an emergency national assembly meeting. Cars of two ministers and a parliamentary secretary were stoned amid protests over the deportation of Bamole Timothy, deputy editor of The Ghana Daily Graphic, and two Moslem Association party members.

Miami Bus Segregation Case Delayed by Federal Judge Stay

Federal Judge Emmett Choate granted a stay on rulings voiding Miami’s bus segregation ordinances while the city pursues an appeal in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. Two weeks earlier, Judge Choate found city and state bus segregation laws unconstitutional and ordered amendments by September 1. Miami City Atty. George Okell said the motion rests on technical points and argues segregation laws raise race issues in the state.

Right Name but Wrong Bank Misprint in Miami Times

The Miami Times erred by reporting a denied charter for a proposed 2nd Ave bank. The front page incorrectly named the Lincoln Federal Savings and Loan Association as the applicant, while no such group with that alias existed. Continued on page 16.
