Congressmen Seek To End Tax Shelters
Washington AP The House Ways and Means Committee voted to curb real estate tax shelters and plans to act next week on farming shelters. The panel warned outsiders use shelters in cattle feeding breeding eggs and other farm operations. A 24 to 10 vote approved eliminating most real estate shelters and a plan for limiting artificial losses could boost federal revenue by about 1 billion annually in the early 1980s with a 250 million first-year pickup. Tax shelters allow investors to create accounting losses to erase taxable income.

Illinois Hopes Encephalitis Outbreak Is Subsideing
Springfield AP health officials say the St Louis encephalitis outbreak in Illinois shows signs of easing with only two new cases raising the total to 171. One in Cook County and one in St Clair County across from St Louis, cooler weather likely reduced mosquito activity and cases. Officials caution it will take a week of low reports to confirm subsidence. Tests on tissue from three suspected deaths have been completed.
