Missouri Supreme Court OKs Senate Districts Compactness Ruling
The Missouri Supreme Court, in a 5-2 decision, upheld the constitutionality of the 34 senatorial districts, ruling some noncompact features in the 6th and 33rd districts acceptable within the statewide plan. Justice Henley noted unavoidable noncompactness but reaffirmed legislative discretion in apportionment. Dissenting Justice Finch argued all districts must meet contiguity compactness and population equality, citing the 6th district as clearly noncompact.
