End of an Era as Jim's Market Closes in Mexico
Frances Rehma, who has run Jim's Market at 815 N. Clark St since her husband Jim's death, retires in June 1965 after 60 years of family ownership. The store began as a home, was remodeled, added to in 1958, and operated through WWII rationing with credit customers and scarce staples. She recalls early days, family ties, and a life built around the shop and neighbors, planning more home time with her sister and nieces as her dog Silver Dollar Lady stays nearby.
