Missouri fights over mandatory trash collection law
Jefferson City AP reports Missouri officials move to enforce the 1972 mandatory trash collection law while lawmakers plan to curb its reach to 1978. Rep. Scoop Usher criticizes the measure as making residents angrier, and cities lagging on master plans face action. A Macon petition seeks to oust the mayor and council over city-wide garbage pickup.

EPA Says Hermann Water Not Reported Correctly
The EPA apologized for a mistaken report that Hermann drinking water failed federal standards. The error reached a nationally televised documentary, stigmatizing Hermann with a 1973 designation. Robert Miller, Missouri water supply director, noted new wells and modernization, including added chlorination.
