Ancestor hunting may be fun or embarrassing

Darryl W. Levings reports on American interest in genealogy and the Royal College of Arms in London. Dr. Conrad Swan notes that ancestry hunting attracts many, from romantic to serious seekers, and explains challenges such as common surnames, incomplete records south of the Mason-Dixon line, and the difficulty of tracing births and residences across the Atlantic. He adds that arms are hereditary and misused ads are misleading, but the search can still yield value for humble families.
