Interstates Clear Of Truck Blocks

Interstate highways were reported clear of protesting truckers today though clusters of trucks capable of blocking were seen in several areas. Truckers who halted east west routes in Pennsylvania and Ohio agreed to a 24hour moratorium to allow talks with officials in Washington. Ohio Turnpike near Toledo was open but traffic restricted to deter new road blocks. a fourmile section of Interstate 280 remained closed as a precaution. A 32mile turnpike section had closed earlier to keep drivers from gathering at a large truck stop. Officials said state actions would solve the problems, not the federal government. Truckers pressed for lower fuel prices higher speed limits unlimited highway use higher weights and permit standardization. Blockades began earlier this week affecting hundreds of tractortrailers.
