Spainhower Seeks Missouri Usury Rate Hike to 10 Percent
Missouri Treasurer James J. Spainhower urged an immediate 2 point raise in the state usury ceiling from 8 to 10 percent for one year. He attacked Gov Bond and the House Banking Committee, calling for a study committee and potential tied to the prime or rediscount rates. He argued higher rates would spur housing and the state's economy, citing state funds invested in Missouri banks and the need for leadership on the issue.
