AP reports special prosecutor Leon Jaworski seeks court permission to subpoena 63 conversations tied to the Watergate cover up. The action targets talks with Haldeman Ehrlichman Colson and Dean and faces Judge Sirica ahead of Sept. 9 trial date for Haldeman Ehrlichman Mitchell and four others. Jaworski notes prior requests yielded little response and cites need for trial evidence.

Victims Of Exploding Bottles To Testify At Hearing

Washington AP. Marion Gronemeyer in Santa Ana suffered chest and hand injuries from a fruit juice bottle shattering in her kitchen. Mrs. Estes of South Milwaukee described a ginger ale top exploding injuring her right thumb. The CPSC cites about 62,000 such accidents annually with some 25,000 requiring hospital treatment. Hearings today and Thursday will feature injured victims and bottling industry reps including the National Soft Drink Association and the Glass Container Manufacturers Institute. A Gronemeyer letter said quick help kept her from bleeding to death. Dr. Kushner noted 110,000 annual injuries involve glass containers, with about a quarter from exploding bottles, many treated in offices or at home.

Missouri welfare probes show office lacking schedule

Three members of a House committee probing Missouri’s welfare system surprised a St. Louis welfare office on Tuesday. Democrats Fred Williams and John Scott and Republican Edward Ottinger found few employees at work during a one hour coffee break and noted no organized schedule hampering efficiency.

Chance Co. Reports Strong First Quarter Earnings Rise

A. B. Chance Co. posted net earnings of 1.355 million dollars for the quarter ended March 31, up from 835 thousand a year earlier. Sales rose to 25.868 million with per share income at 42 cents after a 2-for-1 stock split. President L. C. Hansen cited plant modernization, new products, and higher demand. Backlog reached 42 million on March 31, versus 18.5 million a year ago. The firm serves electric utility and communications systems in more than 100 nations.

Zebra Shoots Kill Another Victim No 18 in San Francisco

In San Francisco a 23 year old TV worker Nelson T Shields was shot in the back by a mystery gunman in the 18th Zebra case. Police Inspector Gus Coreris said it appears to be another Zebra shooting. Since last November twelve people have been killed and six wounded. all victims were white and attackers black.
