Port Arthur Texas March 26 the ship canal was formally opened with steam whistle blasts bands and cheers of thousands visitors from across the United States. Governors Stanley Kansas Jones Arkansas and Sayers Texas attended and toured the canal by tugboat and steamer before exiting to Sabine City for gulf waters. The canal connects Port Arthur to Sabine Pass with deep water access and terminal facilities for the Pittsburg Gulf railroad.
