Sound Money League Holds Central Council Meeting
The National Sound Money league met in New York with J Sterling Morton presiding. Fifteen vice presidents attended as part of the central council. M F Ingalls of Cincinnati urged the league to push for immediate legislation to fix 28 8-10 grains of gold as the standard dollar and to create a separate treasury bureau for issue and redemption. The plan called for gold to cover government redemptions, all government paper in ten dollar denominations, silver certificates for smaller notes, and gold redemption at bank counters. The resolution sparked debate and was referred for consideration.
