More than 60 Meadow Lakes Estates homeowners attended a Richton Park Village Board meeting last week to demand action on issues with the subdivision lake. They seek a active role in beautification and design while noting the south end dries and the other end overflows into homes. Financial Properties plans a Tuesday meeting with developers village officials and state wetlands experts to discuss the lake problems.

Richton Park man nominated for federal judgeship

Richton Park resident William Hibbler was nominated by President Bill Clinton to serve on the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Hibbler called the nomination an honor and gratitude, after being recommended by Senators Moseley Braun and Durbin and having the nomination sent to the Senate.

Unity Day festival scheduled at St. Lawrence Catholic Church

The third annual Unity Day festival in Matteson will run from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 27 at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church grounds. Robin Kelly says the event celebrates differences with music by Monster Soundz, ethnic foods, and activities for all ages including games, bingo, and a putt putt green. Father Jay Finne will welcome guests from nearby towns.

Para-Olympian inspires students at Siebenrg School

Para-Olympian Lloyd Bachrach spoke to 350 Siebenrg School students sharing five keys to success. He described his congenital bone deficiency, short legs, and prosthetic limbs including a hydraulic left leg and a combined right device. Bachrach recalled doctors doubting him and explained he is differently able.
