Judge denies probation for DeRouin in Layfield death
The judge refused probation for DeRouin in the involuntary manslaughter case and postponed imprisonment to November 29 so he can spend Thanksgiving at home. Prosecutors argued for prison, highlighting lack of remorse, while defense cited family restraint and DeRouin’s stable background. Layfield’s son testified about his father’s impact, and the victim’s family expressed mixed feelings as DeRouin sobbed in court.

Matteson May Raise Ambulance Fees for Nonresidents
Matteson Village Board considers raising ambulance fees for nonresidents from 75 to 100 dollars for basic life support and 95 to 150 dollars for advanced life support. The plan excludes contracted areas and residents who work in town.
