Third airport hearing draws usual testimony
The Illinois environmental assessment for the proposed Peotone airport drew about 200 attendees, including supporters, critics, and local officials. The $4.9 billion plan would protect wetlands and flood-prone areas yet faces opposition over farmland loss, noise, traffic, and water concerns. IDOT will use Wednesday’s comments in a final assessment due to the FAA, with a decision anticipated by year’s end 1998.
