Jim Sharp promises to act on residents' wishes as officials move on.
The Richton Park Board discussed updating a non solicitation ordinance and bids on a fire department vehicle. Definitions for solicitation and real estate agent were added to align with other municipalities and address a Pearson vs Edgar court decision while noting the South Suburban Housing Center case. Residents were advised to request a no solicitor decal and to join a non solicitation list at village hall.
Miller Consolidated Inc. announced that Park Forest will host the first dealership move to Matteson’s mega auto mall opening mid next year. James Miller Chevrolet Geo and Nissan Volkswagen stores will relocate from Chicago Heights and Park Forest, with Olds Isuzu in Matteson staying nearby. BMW and Suzuki imports and Kia lines are among possibilities for the center.
In Matteson District 159, incumbents George Gingras and Sonya Norwood won four year terms. Elliot Johnson took the third seat, with vote totals Norwood 596 Johnson 484 Gingras 453. Ousted incumbent Orvelle Brown 410 and Yoland Williams 395 also ran. Gingras credited helping lift the district from financial watch and his fiscal expertise amid the campaign.
Crete Township resident Richard Devon was found guilty by a Will County jury of leaving the scene of a May 1996 accident that killed three girls. The jury acquitted him of obstruction of justice. He faces up to three years in prison and reports say sentencing is set for December 17.
Olympia Fields Country Club was named the site for the 2003 U S Open by the United States Golf Association. The club will have five years to prepare, following hosting the U S Senior Open last summer that drew over 100000 spectators. Village President Linzey Jones praised the selection and its impact on the community.
