Memorial Day events sponsored by Matteson American Legion Post 474 start with assembly at 9:30 a.m. at the legion home, proceeding to the Frank E. Allemong memorial for a 10 a.m. program with the National Anthem by Rich South band and a service led by Rev. Fred Smith III. A second ceremony at Memorial Park features multiple speakers, bands, wreaths, and a Flanders Field recital, with extensive parade participation from local organizations and schools.
Matteson Lions club will sponsor a car wash and rummage sale on June 4 starting at 8 a.m. at Mahler's Texaco station in Matteson. Residents may donate items by calling the station or dropping them off. An August 19 event, Augustfest, will feature a blindfolded softball game between a team of blind players and Matteson Lions.
